Calbank Plc, a SUNREF partner bank, kick-started a regional business clinic to engage customers of the bank. This initiative commenced from the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi. The meeting focused on how businesses can adopt an eco-conscious business approach using energy-efficient and renewable resources to accelerate growth and ensure business sustainability, and how they can take advantage of Calbank’s Green Financing options such as the SUNREF Energy Financing Program.

The SUNREF Program is targeted at Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency projects for Industry, including supermarkets, private hospitals, offices, hotels as well as households. The interest rate on the loans granted by the bank through the SUNREF Program are below the prevailing market rates. Mr. Philip Owiredu, the Managing Director of Calbank Plc, Normand Michaud, SUNREF Team Leader, Mr. Daniel Appiah, Head of SME & Business banking, Mr. Edmund Nii Ala Laryea, Relationship Manager, Corporate & Institutional banking and Ms. Martha Acquaye, Head of Digital & Inclusive Banking were the main speakers at the meeting.

The Agence Française de Dévelopement (AFD) and the GCB Bank Plc on May 25, 2022 signed a USD 13.7 million Credit Facility Agreement and a EUR 1 million Grant Financing Agreement to support local businesses towards the development of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy projects under the Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and Energy Finance (SUNREF) Programme in Ghana. Through this partnership with GCB Bank Plc, SUNREF Ghana will continue to offer competitive loans and technical assistance for structuring green investments to companies, organizations, individuals and households.
 
The objective of the SUNREF Programme is to mobilize Ghanaian financial institutions such as GCB Bank Plc and Calbank, to finance private sector investments in green technologies, especially in the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency segments in Ghana with up to 10% grant on the loan after project completion and verification. The Energy Commission is hosting the SUNREF Programme in Ghana.
