Energy Commission Engages Stakeholders on Improved Biomas Cookstoves Regulation

The Energy Commission has begun a nationwide regional awareness creation exercise on improved biomass cookstoves regulation.
The first phase of the awareness creation exercise was held in Accra, Goaso, Tamale, Wa, Ho and Dambai attended by selected biomass cookstoves manufacturers, distribution and retailers, representatives of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), the Ghana Standards Authority and the various Regional Coordinating Councils.

The Renewable Energy (Standards and Labeling) (Improved Biomass Cookstoves) Regulations L.I 2454, 2022 was passed in November last year to regulate the manufacturing, importers, distribution and sale of improved biomass cookstoves. Enforcement of the new Regulations will commence in November 2024.
The objective of the L.I 2454 is to promote the efficient use of biomass resources and mitigate the impact of climate change by providing for the enforcement of minimum performance standards for improved biomass cookstoves, labeling and registration of improved biomass cookstoves.
